Vintage homemaking tip :: keep iron clean – part one

“To clean steam irons: Use commercial products or pour plain vinegar into your iron. Use the same amount of vinegar as you would of water. Steam the iron for four minutes, disconnect it and let set for one hour. Empty the vinegar and rinse the iron with water. Wipe the iron over a damp cloth before using, to catch any sediment that might have come loose. You might also run the iron over a wet washcloth.”
