Tuning the Piano

We decided to get our old Wurlitzer tuned, in honor of our 5th anniversary.

The piano has been in my family for about 15 years now, and after being moved three times, it was long overdue for a tuning.

First he tuned…

Then he took out each of the keys and cleaned them, vacuuming the 55+ years of accumulated dust from underneath…

Then he found a broken key…

Which he repaired…

Then, he adjusted the capstans…

and then tuned some more…

played a bit…

sipped some coffee…

And tuned some more…

Then, he tightened the wobbly leg on the piano, and put it all back together.

I thought it was interesting to learn that the piano was built in August of 1953 – which means that while this piano was being lovingly and carefully constructed in Illinois, this house was also being designed and built. It’s strange that they were destined to end up together, all these years later.
